"Finally, the man stopped, “You have nothing of value.” He said gruffly.
She nodded, “When my husband died, he didn’t leave us anything. We are too poor. I don’t think we can pay you…” Her voice trailed off.
“The debt will be paid!” He screeched.
She hid her face into her hands, crouching low to avoid getting hit.
Would he hit her? She wasn’t sure – all she knew was that he was enraged.
Slowly she looked up and straightened on the stool, relief flooding through her being.
The thin man stopped pacing and glared her way, “Your husband borrowed a lot of money, and YOU WILL pay it back.”
“How?” Her voice shook.
She skimmed the empty room – there was nothing of value she could possibly sell.
The man scanned the room, he looked like a wild lion, who waited in the shadows for its prey. Suddenly, his eyes rested on her only valuable possession.
Her sons."
