"It was early afternoon when I looked out the window again to see how things were faring. The crowds were dissolving and merchants with their makeshift tents were heading home. Suddenly, something caught my eye and I leaned over the window a little further.
Two strange men were entering our city gates – they tried to look inconspicuous but to me they looked suspicious. Their head were slightly lowered and they tried to avoid eye contact with people. Interesting I thought.
Then one of them looked up and our eyes locked. I gaped.
Israelites!
I stepped back in horror. My heart thundered, my mouth dried and my breathing accelerated.
Something bad was going to happen. I just knew it. For an Israelite to be in our city, it meant only one thing! War and death."
